Long Range Planning journal achieves Higher AJG Rating under Editor-in-Chief Tom Lawton, Prof. of Strategy & International Business in CUBS.

The Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS) has just released an intermediate review of its journal ratings (AJG 2024), including an impressive upgrade for Long Range Planning (LRP), the world’s oldest strategic management journal. Under the editorial leadership of Professor Tom Lawton from Cork University Business School at UCC, LRP has advanced from an AJG 3 to a 4, marking it as a leading publication in strategic management research. AJG Grade 4 Journals are internationally recognised as exemplars of research excellence in their field.

Long Range Planning is a leading international journal for the field of strategic management. The journal has forged a strong reputation for publishing original research since 1968 publishing articles that involve empirical research and theoretical articles, including studies that review and assess the current state of knowledge in important areas of strategy.

Professor Lawton has served as Associate Editor of LRP since 2015, and in January 2022, he was appointed Co-Editor-in-Chief, working alongside Prof Roberto Vassolo of IAE Business School at Austral University in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since then, Professor Lawton has globalised and grown the editorial team to 15 members, including, most recently, Prof Maria Andrea De Villa Correa of Universidad EAFIT in Colombia, and Prof Ke Rong of Tsinghua University in China.

This ranking highlights LRP's status as a top-tier journal known for publishing pioneering research with high citation metrics, selective submission criteria, and significant international impact. LRP also boasts a strong 2023 Journal Impact Factor of 7.4 and a CiteScore of 13.0, further establishing its competitiveness alongside other prestigious journals in the field.

Reflecting on this achievement, Professor Lawton noted, “Achieving an AJG 4 rating firmly places Long Range Planning in the top echelon of business and management research journals. This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our editorial team, authors, and reviewers. It reflects the quality and impact of the research published in LRP, and we are excited about the opportunities this presents for the future of our journal.”

Professor Thia Hennessy, Head of the College of Business and Law at UCC, commented on Professor Lawton’s achievement: “This elevation of Long Range Planning Journal reflects Professor Lawton’s exceptional leadership and dedication, enhancing both the journal's global standing and UCC’s reputation in business research.”
